in December

The best trips in December / Christmas.

1. Vienna, Austria
If you have a few days of vacation in December and do not want to go too far, you will find many options in Europe that will make you fall in love. This year we propose you Vienna, the European capital par excellence of the Christmas markets. From November 17 to December 26, the city is full of lights, wooden booths and local crafts and Christmas objects and, of course, the food stalls to accompany the walk with some cookies and a hot wine. Try to dedicate at least 3 days, as you will find several markets distributed throughout the city: the Schonbrunn Palace, the Town Hall and the Spittelberg are just some of them. In the official page of Tourism of Austria you can consult all the information.

The Christmas markets are a great excuse, but Vienna offers other reasons for inclusion within the places to travel in December. The capital of Austria has many imperial buildings and palaces, theaters, art galleries and, of course, beautiful cafes and pastry shops where the delicious Sacher cake is served, among other varied delicacies.

2. Disneyland Paris, France
Traveling to Christmas in the magical world of Disney is something smaller that the family will never forget. Well, and neither are the elderly.

The American visionary and his artists create a legion of characters that have been present in our lives since childhood. When the Christmas season arrives, there is something in our interior that makes us return to that time when everything was joy, play and there were no worries. The age of innocence, when the only house we wanted to have was once in the Land of Neverland, the only car we thought to buy was the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, our favorite dog was Pluto and we just wanted to kiss Cinderella or the Prince Eric of the Little Mermaid.

In addition, a few kilometers from the theme park we have the City of Lights, more illuminated than ever. Paris is one of the best places to enjoy Christmas in Europe.

3 New York, New York
Christmas is the perfect excuse to prepare the suitcase and make the last trip of the year. It does not matter if you've been to New York, London, Québec or Berlin before. If you go back at Christmas, it's as if you did it for the first time. And it is that during these days, the cities are transformed completely and bring out their best clothes and traditions. These are 20 destinations to which you should always return (or at least once) at Christmas.

4 Berlin: a Christmas with bratwurst and mulled wine
At least once in your life you have to enjoy a German Christmas. And what better place than Berlin? The most monumental and historic city in the country offers parties where colorful lights rival the white mantle of snow on the streets. To combat the cold, there is nothing better than ordering a typical bratwurst accompanied by mulled wine in a street stall. For shopaholic Christmas gifts, there are more than fifty weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas markets) scattered throughout the city. In the photo, Unter den Linden trees are illuminated every year at this time.

Bratislava: the scenery of a Christmas story
The historic center of Bratislava looks like the setting for a Christmas story. Its labyrinth of cobblestone streets and squares with the castle presiding over a hill invite us to get lost in the city. In one of their cozy coffees we can try the delicous Christmas cakes at very reasonable prices. And in the market of the Plaza Mayor, buy some typical crafts to take us as a souvenir.

5 New Zealand.

For an epic December vacation, look for a ticket to our antipodes: New Zealand. Not only will you get rid of the cold, because there they will be in the middle of summer, but some film landscapes await you (never better, because those of The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit were filmed there). Land in Auckland, spend a couple of days fighting jet lag and then grab a van or rental car to get to know the country on a slow fire. Although the postcards you have seen of the archipelago come mostly from the southern island, do not underestimate the charms of the north. There volcanoes like the Tongariro and the Taranaki await you, geysers like those of Rotorua, canyons and subterranean rivers like Waitomo and the cradle of The Lord of the Rings, Hobitton.

It crosses in ferry to the south of the archipelago to continue opening the mouth wide open. Do not miss places such as the Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound fjords, the imposing Fran Josef and Fox glaciers, the Dunedin peninsula and its penguins, the Manapouri and Wanaka lakes or the Abel Tasman National Park trails, where the best beaches are New Zealand. There are endless routes by car!

6 Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland
If Disneyland is a magical place, what about the town where Santa Claus (or Santa Claus) lives along with his legion of elves.

Traveling at Christmas to Rovaniemi is more than just an adventure in which you cross the Arctic Circle. It is a journey to illusion and dreams. Another great destination to travel with as a family. Although Santa Claus has much more work than people think and can be found in his town every day of the year, the fact is that visiting him during these dates adds an unpayable extra to the trip.

Take the opportunity to take a sleigh ride pulled by reindeer, know the customs of the inhabitants of the area and how not, leave your wish letter to Santa Claus. If you've behaved well, I'm sure it gives you all of them

7 Madrid (Spain): A Christmas of tapas and churros
Madrid is another city that soaks its streets with a great Christmas spirit. The Puerta del Sol with its large illuminated Christmas tree is a mandatory appointment to bid farewell to the year in style. Until then, the party is in the traditional market of the Plaza Mayor, where wigs, costumes and jokes make the place a true Carnival. To end the night well, it is best to fill the stomach with a good tapas route or warm up enjoying a good chocolate with churros in the cafeteria of San Ginés.

8 Moscow (Russia): The largest ice rink in the world
The cold winter in Moscow is no obstacle to going out and living Christmas. Just a note: in Russia, Christmas is celebrated on January 7 (not December 25), as the calendar of the Orthodox Church marks. That day, following the tradition, the Muscovites only eat water and wheat seeds, a fast that is later rewarded with the great banquet of the night. Another difference: here Santa Claus is actually called Ded Moroz, a 'cold grandfather' who always travels with his granddaughter Snegúrochka or 'Nievecita', handing out gifts. The huge Christmas tree that is placed in the square of the Kremlin is another traditional stamp that should not be missed, such as the ice rink on the main Avenue of the VDNJ, which holds the title of "largest in the world."

9 New Year in Sydney, Australia
Do you want to be among the first to receive 2019 and do it in style? A great place to go in December for you is, undoubtedly, Sydney. The fireworks show of this Australian city is one of the best known in the world and there is no year that the image of the Opera House wrapped in colors does not appear on all the news. The light show usually lasts several hours, although the best known is the one that dismisses the year, which lasts for about 15 minutes. The party that is mounted in Botanic Gardes, the best place to see it, is monumental and people usually go hours before to save site.

10 Rovaniemi, the city of Santa Claus
You have not sent the letter to Santa Claus yet? Do not worry, if you travel to Rovaniemi you can give it to them. In this small city of Finnish Lapland live the great competition of the Magi: Santa Claus. Located in the Arctic Circle, between snowy forests, ice rivers and northern lights that illuminate the sky, Rovaniemi has become an attraction in itself every Christmas thanks to this charismatic character. About all children will love this destiny.
